VULKANO takes part in a new exploitation event for the aluminum industry
On June 20th, 2018, representatives of VULKANO project had the chance to take part in the Aluminum Innovation Workshop on Digitalization and circular economy in Brussels, Belgium organized by European Aluminum.
The aim of the event was to build bridges between the aluminum industry and research expertsas well as initiate new project ideas under the Horizon 2020 framework program. Around 60 industry and research experts who had the chance to exchange their experience and discuss ideas for future collaboration attended the event. The workshop started with a welcome presentation by VUB & European Aluminium represented by Herman Terryn, followed by general presentations on digitalization and factories of the future by SPIRE and EFFRA. The workshop continued with two parallel section focused on Circular Economy and Digitalization.
The experts from Fraunhofer IMW presented the aims and objectives of the VULKANO project in the session focused on Digitalization. During the presentation, each individual technology solution as well as the integrated retrofitting system was discussed in detail with the participants. Representatives from different companies were interested in further information regarding the opportunity to implement some of the VULKANO solutions in their own furnaces. Furthermore, researchers were interested in the methodology behind conducting CFD simulations and thermo-imaging as well as the concrete equipment being used in the process.
Some of the issues that arose during discussion were related to the necessary time for deployment of the solution on their premises. Another point for discussion was the inclusion of the VULKANO project in the FoF website as an additional means for dissemination of project results.
