RINA takes VULKANO to professionals from multiple sectors during the International Workshop on Spark Plasma Sintering

Daniela Olevano, from the partner RINA Consulting – Centro Sviluppo Materiali SpA presented an overview of the VULKANO project during the fourth edition of the International Workshop on Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) that was held on 23 – 25 May 2018 in Cagliari (Italy).

At this event VULKANO presented a poster describing the overall project, entitled: VULKANO: Novel integrated refurbishment solution as a key path towards creating eco-efficient and competitive furnaces.

The purpose of this International Workshop was to give some breakthroughs regarding densification mechanisms, current path, temperature gradients and mould nature / design influence, whatever is the powder bed (conductive or insulating) in SPS processes. The conference provided an exciting programme with the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from all sectors of materials science and engineering including both academia and industry.

The VULKANO poster was object of interest for dr. Nikola Kanas of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, who suggested to consider in the future research activities also the application of innovative thermoelectric materials for transforming waste heat in electrical energy. The most innovative thermoelectric materials can be produced by SPS processes.
